OLP's are great for the price. I have known several people that replaced the hardware (eventually) and the bass ends up serving them very well. I tried one just like the picture you have posted at Guitar Center at it played very well. Remember: Try Before You Buy! Good Hunting!

The OLP Stingray is a good buy. As Ivan suggested though 'try before you buy'. You want to be sure it feels and sounds the way you want.

Every different brand or model will have noticable differences. Different neck profiles, finishes, weight, etc.

Different basses of the same brand and model should, in theory, be identical. In practice though there are always some differences. Good quality control attempts to make the differences small and un-noticable. Still, it's always best to try first just to be sure.

Looks like a winner, but shop around! Musician's Friend (www.musiciansfriend.com) has the OLP MM2 in black for $249 (US).

It is just pure simple evil to remind us over here of the prices of instruments in the US :-)

Even though the price for a start is a clear winner, shipping, taxes etc makes it impossible, not taken into account that quite a few shops don't ship abroad or don't accept our credit cards... :-(

I guess the shipping is the big deal. I really don't know. I didn't check where you were shopping from when you first posted. I was looking at the OLP MM2 and MM3 in a natural last summer and found a few MM2 for $199 and the MM3 for $239 (on eBay and on some online music shops). So when I read $400, I thought it was high. I wasn't thinking about international purchases.
