Bass Player magazine -25 players who changed everything

Who's read this current special issue. Who do you think should/shouldn't be in? In case you havent here's their list

Aston Barrett
Jimmy Blanton
Cliff Burton
Jack Casady
Paul Chambers
Les Claypool
Bootsy
John Entwhistle
Flea
Larry Graham
Steve Harris
Anthony Jackson
James Jamerson
Scott La Faro
Geddy Lee
Phil Lesh
Israel Cachao Lopez
Paul McCartney
Marcus Miller
Pino Palladino
Jaco
Rocco Prestia
Billy Sheehan
Victor Wootten

I'm not sure of how imfluential all these players are but I'd have put in Bernard Edwards and Mark King. These are the two that inspired me to take up the bass and no doubt thousands of others.

I'm not listening much to reggae these days, but I used to quite a lot, think that influence helped me understand that being a bass player is something of the coolest one can be :-)

According to Wikipedia: "Sly and Robbie may well be the most prolific recording artists ever. One staggering estimate is that they have played on or produced some 200,000 songs." So influential, I guess so, even though he may 'just' have produced some of the 200000 and not played bass on all of them...

Hmmm... I have to dive into my old vinyl collection and dig out some of the reggae albums...

I don't know how universally influential he might be, but Chris Squire is who influenced me to start on the bass.

I think Rick Danko from The Band should be on the list. One, if not the first, to record and play live using a fretless.

While Jack Casady played for a well-known band, somebody like
Chris Squire from Yes was probably a lot more influential upon his
generation of bass players...

Thank you Oh wise and clever Ploddy. But I think both Vern and myself would more likely be found on the INfamous bass player list rather then a famous one.

Hmm No Nathan East, Ma Geezer, Lesa, or Paul Redmile?

Perhaps AB members should create their own list and to keep evryone happy make it the best 100,000 bass players of all time, then each and every one of us would be on it.
