Musos suck!

Singers, composers, conductors, improvisers, accordianists, bassoonists, bandurists, bazoukists, cellists, clarinetists, keyboard players, euphoniumists, electronic musicians, flautists, hornists, oboists, pianists, tubists, piccoloists, percussionists, recorderists, organists, saxophonists, musical sawists, sitarists, timpanists, trombonists, trumpetists or is it ers, Uillean pipists, violinists, violaists, arrangers, orchestrators, record producers, organ grinders, harmonicaists, ukuleleists, and as all bass players know, drummers, guitarists, and keyboard players, and bagpipe stranglers ALL SUCK!

and so they/we should!

If we can go to bed tonight with more knowledge of music than we got out of bed this morning with, then we are surely more knowledgeable musicians. Even if that musical knowledge doesnt actually help us play our chosen instrument more efficiently. We may have learnt something about the nature of different timbers and their effect on the tone of our instrument, or what over-tones are, or who the heck Robert Johnson was, or the difference between gain and volume for example. None of which will make us slap out a bass solo any more effectively, but each snippet of musical information has contributed to our acquisition of musical knowledge. We have sucked up more musical scraps into our brains musical storage area.

Perhaps, therefore, the most knowledgeable musicians are simple the most efficient musical vacuum cleaners, the biggest suckers of the lot!

So next time someone tells you, that as a musician you suck, stand tall and take it as a compliment!

So I can call my old mate Vern a sucker, and mean it.
