On a 5 stringer, the lowest string is a B. 6 strings, I am not sure, sorry.

On my six, it's a high "C". I never could deal with that "major third" thing on guitar between the G and the B. On my six, it's in 4ths all across.

There are some 5 strings that offer just a high C. But really, who would wanna go anywhere but lower!

What's really cool with 6 strings, is that the altered tunings are endless. I have some stuff which requires to retune both my B and E strings, and some times i'll drop my C to a B as well. Care must be taken, however in retunings and the stress it might cause on your neck. The moment you're done, retune to standard.

Why would you do it on a 6 string only? Can't you do it on a bass with any number of strings?

Dude standard Tuning is BEADGCF on a seven string bass and so B being the lowest string just tune like normal.

Some 7s(in fact, the only two I've ever seen/"played")were strung F#BEADGC; yep, a LOW F#.

jim...how did the F# sound? i can't imagine the
rig you would need to reproduce the low end on
that puppy, maybe the bag end system?

To me, the F# sounded "unusable"; too, the string had the feel of overcooked linguine ;-)(Both were Roscoe basses).
Do you remember John Turner at TalkBass? He's playing a 7 w/ the low F#.

that's were i first heard of them,from john turner. but he has a ton of nifty stuff to play
