Prejudice..

Please don't make this into a political thread, but I really need to rant about it.

While I was leaving Germany to England, the guy at the boarding pass check (a black guy the size of a wardrobe) gave me the special treatment: First he curtly told me to stand properly in front of him so he could see my face then he told me to take my hands off the counter, which I was leaning on. Then came the questions: Where are you from, where are you staying in the UK, why are you staying there, how long are you staying, how old are you, etc etc etc.. After he left me pass after an interrogation of 2 minutes, I looked back 5 seconds later and the next one (a blond German) had already passed.

Today at the airport after entering the departure lounge I had my passport controlled by a UK immigration officer. No big deal. A few metres away two men stopped me and asked me for my passport. I told them: "I just had it controlled by you colleague". One of them said: He's an immigration officer, we're from the police. Where are you from, where were you staying, why were you staying there, how long were you staying what's your profession, how old are you, what's your fathers profession, can I see your passport *minute long inspection*, etc etc etc.. After leaving me alone I looked back and many people passed without being even stopped.

So it's my arab appearance that's getting me the special treatment. I know that after the London bombings they have a right to be sceptical, but do they REALLY have to leave everyone in peace but give those with black hair and light brown skin a hard time?

It's not right. And I think you all agree with me. Ramble's over

Sorry to hear about it, bro. I think it's a bad time for all non-terrorist affiliated people who even remotely look Arabic (if that's the proper term). Hang in there buddy, we're rootin' for you.

You are being harrassed because someone who fits your profile murdered innocents. If these terror morons would take a minute to think about what they are doing to their own people...nevermind, they don't care about anything but their own petty agenda.

Ahmed,

If you look at my picture on my AB page you'll see I wear a beard. I have for years. Shortly after 9/11 and the shoe bomber was caught, I was flying with my wife and son to Seattle from Charlotte, NC. I had a lot of frequent flier miles so we went 1st class. The trip to and from each had two legs.

At each boarding gate, I was pulled out of line and searched very thoroughly. I even had to drop my pants once. On the way home my wife said, when they pull you out of line, we're just going to our seats and wait for you. She was trying to be funny during an awkward time. Well, both times I was pulled out.

I believe this was certainly profiling based on my appearance and my sneakers. I'm not of middle eastern decent, but I fit some profile.

I truly feel for you Bro.

Pete

Hi Ahmed,

As an Englishman I am very sorry that you have been questioned and inconvenienced so much when you visited my homeland. However, I do believe that a government's first responsibility is to it's people, and the harsh measures put in place are purely for helping to prevent or reduce potential terrorists from entering the country. I am sure you are wise enough in the ways of the world to appreciate this.

Everyone knows that an extremely minute percentage of people of Arab ethnicity, or muslims are terrorists, it's just that the majority so far found, are from those 2 backgrounds. It is unfair, one hell of an inconvenience, and a infringement of one's liberty to have to do these things to visitors. Having said that - if I was asked such questions on arrival in Egypt shortly after a terrorism attack in your country, I would try to understand that it is better to be annoying to a visitor if it decreases his chance of being blown to bits whilst there.

Please forgive my country for infringing on your freedoms and causing you to be upset, we are not usually that way to our friends, but times demand it.

I hope your stay was otherwise enjoyable in my neck of the woods.

It is a shame, Ahmed, that a very small percentage of people can cause so many problems. What's worse is that they cause people of similar appearance, religion, or race problems as well. I am sorry for what you are going through. My condolences to your countrymen who were killed or injured and their families in the recent rash of bombings in your beautiful country.
