What's the big deal with Fieldy?

A lot of bass players praise this schmuck, but I fail to see why. I'm not putting him down as a person, but I can play 90% of his lines with my feet, he has a crappy sound(Too much distortion and not enough mids), his timing is off live, and with the way he plays, he only needs a 2 string bass(Tuned A,D) two fingers and his right hand thumb. Someone please point out why he's so good, or I may go nuts figuring out on my own.

In my opinion, Fieldy is a sorry excuse for a bassist - oops! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to use the word "bassist" in the same sentence with Fieldy. "Chainsaw artist" is more like it!

I think Fieldy is a pretty cool player. I still can't play his slap part on "Got the Time". I agree that he can be predictable, but I think he has some phat grooves particulary on the first and last albums. I think his fingerstyle reggae and funk lines are under-appreciated (although Bootsy Collins nor the dude from Sublime he isn't) I like his synth lines also. For me he just isn't boring, there's not as much musicianship in Korn (maybe except the drummer) as turning pretty things and funky dance grooves and making them dark and heavy. I don't think Fieldy wants to all that much. He just wants to play and make money. Although if Korn had a straight playing drummer Fieldy might be in trouble. He is a hip-hopper so maybe his solo album will show more of his talents.

I think the only reason fieldy is given the credit he gets is because his band is seen on mtv.

True, fieldy doesn't have the most complicated style of bass. It is a bit diffrent that what most people play so he get's a bit more attention and it sounds cool to the casual observer. He's not incredibly talented but the press he gets his cause his band is popular. I don't really lose all that much sleep over the fact that the backstreet boys are making millions of dollars and that they are crap.

Same situation as fieldy. His method of playing appeals to the masses and it works for the music. He plays rap/metal. The bass only has to be about 4-notes anyway. I like korn and I think he fits into the band's sound quit well so leave the guy alone.

I guess that's my two cents
