Just How Good Is The Ibanez Prestige 3005?

Anyone that owns an Ibanez Prestige 3005 5-string bass? Is it really worth the money? Also, does the new GXR series 5 string match to the Prestige?

I have played the Prestige 3005 and it is every bit as good as a higher end Spector. It is an amazing instrument, but very pricey. If you have the money - go for it (that is the only reason I didn't). I have no idea what a GXR series bass is (its not an Ibanez)?

Have played the 3000 4-string and have to say that the neck is incredible even though I prefer a neck through. The workmanship is flawless and it really is a thing of beauty. It's a heavy bugger but well balanced. It has all kinds of tone variety because of the variable mid tone control. It has a bit of a modern sound and I guess I'm an old school guy and prefer the straight ahead sound of my 1982 Ibanez Musician. I acutally prefer the SRX 700, a neck through with great pickups and can be had for $600.00. I ordered an Ibanez DWB3 which is similar to the SRX 700 but with a little nicer wood and EMG pickups.

I opted out for the same reason (other than price) and purchased the SRX705. I love that baby.

how would you compare the sound of the srx705 to the srx500? I never got a chance to play the 705, there were no stores that carried them or could order them.

I played both and I liked the 705 better. The 505 uses basswood body w/maple flame top vs the 705's light ash (the entire bass body). Also, the 505 is a 3 piece maple bolt on while the 705 is a 5 piece Maple/Walnut neck-thru. This is not to say that the 505 wasn't good - it had a nice sound to it, I just liked the 705 better.

I don;t own an SR3005E but I do own a BTB1005EOL. I've checked pricing and the BTB is just a little bit more costly, but in my opinion well worth the money. the BTB has wider string spacing and a 35" neck. Although this takes a bit of getting used to after the narrow 34" of the SR range ( about 3 days! ) you just won't want to go back to the others. The longer neck makes for much tighter strings which sound very punchy and the ergodynamics of the BTB neck actualy make it an easier bass to play once you get the hang of it.

When you get into the upper end of the Ibanez basses, the quality is pretty hard to dispute. Even some of the lower end basses are pretty incredible for the money. Ever since I latched onto my '82 Musician I've been an Ibanez guy through and through even though I come from a backround of Fenders, Yamahas and G&L's.

Sorry people, I ment the new SRX series. I now own a SRX505 5-string. It is the sweetest sound I have ever heard. The pickups are amazing. I only hvae to turn my volume half of what I use to with my SR400. Very deep, rich tone. Nice bass for the price. Picked one up for $375 + a TKL case on a $200 trade-in for my SR400(retail $505-530 marked down to $300 - $200(SR400 tarde-in value) + $75 for brand new TKL case(didn't want to pay the price for the Ibanez case.)

Drew, is that the latest Ibanez with Bartolini pick-ups? If so that's a nice bass. I read somewhere in another thread where a guy had a 90's SR505 which he converted to fretless. Those basses - korean I think - were also good basses, way better than some of the later SR's like the 404.
