Given the events over the past few days concerning a certain new member prone to profanity in both their homepage and in the forums, I'd just like to reiterate what our policy is conerning these issues.
In general, we delete FretBuzz threads that contain large amounts of profanity, or if two members start getting personal against each other. We do this because there is too much good stuff in the forums to clutter it with this type of nonsense. Usually, in the course of these threads, there are always a few members who try to be the voice of reason to temper the behavior of offensive members, and unfortunately, these messages usually get swept under the carpet during the process as well, so for that, I sincerely apologize.
In these type of situations, I offer the following advice. If you think you might be the one who's about to post a completely profane tirade against whatever the idea du jour is that day, you're probably better expending the energy somewhere else (like perhaps looking for therapy groups in your area for anger management). There are plenty of other bass forums on the Web which have this going on at the time, and at AB, it'll just get deleted anyway, so perhaps another site might be a more appropriate pulpit.
Similarly, if you happen to see a post like this, and feel compelled to try to do something to make the original poster realize how idiotic they're being, then you might want to look at a
previous thread about how trying to be pro-active about the situation usually makes the situation worse. It's been my experience that people often post bizarre things because they just want attention, and when you give them that attention, it just makes them want to do it more.
Finally, in extreme cases like those of the last days, it definitely helps if you e-mail us about it (just hit the "Contact Us" link at the top of every page), because it's not possible for us to always fully inspect everything that goes on at the site. To this end, I would to like thank those members who brought this situation to my attention.
Thanks for listening.
