guitars through bass amps
since i just got into guitar playing a few months ago and am too cheap to spend on a designated guitar amp, i've been playing my squier strat mostly through my fender bassman 100 and it sounds ok, if a little tinny. but, planning ahead (ie college) i can't really lug that around and i'd rather not have to deal with a small bass amp AND guitar amp, so my question to you is: how well do guitar effects (ie distortion) go through bass amps even if used by a guitar? or should i just suck it up and buy a guitar practice amp?

Don't forget that those early Fender Bassman amps were hijacked by the blues rock guitarists of the '60s and '70s to give a deep and mellow tone that became a stple at that time.
