Plus, and here's the real big advantage, you can still play usuing your usual 4 string bass techniques - slap, pop, thumb, harmonics all just the way you would usually play them - just in a different register.
You can also get tenor basses (usually strung ADGC) Stanley Clarke and Vic Wooten, amongst others, play these. Are these people stupid? I think not.
