Drunk-Wannabee's wanting to join your show!

It seems to me, more often than not, there are always one or two, men or women, that feel it is their given right to " Join" the group onstage during a show. Most say they are going to get up and play, no questions asked. Some actually do ask, if you can understand " Drunken Stupor". I always tell them, " It is the rules of the club, not to have anyone other than the band onstage, insurance reasons ya know, so sorry man"......This not only gets rid of the " Problem" of explaining to the people that under no circumstances are they going to be allowed to come up and play with you, but puts the ' Blame" for them not being able to dazzle the musical world with their rendition of " Freebird",somewhere else... It is also a pretty safe bet, that they won't go looking for the club owners and ask why they can't play to. Then, we get rid of them, and don't become the A*holes for not sharing their talents with the world..What do all you other folks do, in dealing with drunk wannabees?

the worst are the drunken harp players that don't
even relize that you need different harps for different keys, and then when you say NO they insist on playing from across the room.(out of tune) in my experience the more they tell you how
great they are, the more they suck!

Jerry!! We have had the same gigs!! Same deal... a harp player.. showed up at 3 of our gigs...He would jump up onstage and blow over vocals, solos!! He thought he was great!!! We got wise to him real fast and the last time we saw him
(Boohoo) he started for the stage and we all blocked him!! It was really kinda funny...nothing like a big Fender P-bass to slow you up!! Then he tried to stand there, during the song and argue with us... My hubby yelled NO!!! right in his ear, he packed up and stormed out...

Then there's the guy with 20 backstage passes around his neck that he bought out of the back of Circus magazine. He'll give the band backstage passes for (insert band here) and get you an opening gig for (next band here) if you'll play 20 of his favorite songs and let him sing. Of course, the guy weighs 500 pounds, is so drunk he can barely stand up, has been around doing this for years, and is bothering the other customers for drinks. Will this guy take no for an answer, no. Do you tell him no anyway, yes.

And, as we all know.... you can sing so much better when you are drunk of your rear..But, if he weighs that much, you can always outrun him!!!

In my Rock band, we had this drunkard trying to get on stage to rap over "Why Can't I Touch It" by the Buzzcocks. Oh, did I mention that he was a fifty something year old?

i almost forgot my biggest gripe on this subject,
it seems at almost every wedding gig i ever played
there is some guy that used to be a "great" drummer in his high school days and since he's related to either the bride or groom, you can't say no. it's almost always a drummer too. i cringe
as i watch them butcher your poor drummer's drumset/sticks/and any sense of groove because if
they are going to sit in, every bar will have some
out of time drumfill to show off thier "skills"

I recall playing a party for the graduating class of East Carolina U & the best friend of the club owner's son wanted to sit in...we were an R&B-ish Top-40 band(mid-'80s); anyway, we do Van Halen's "Jump"...the guy was a "good" drummer! Problem? After the tune, he hands our drummer two broken sticks; in addition, the foot pedal was trashed.
I do relish the memory(or "mammary;-)of two inebriated hotties jumping onstage & dancing while we played Michael Sembello's "Maniac".

Hey Chris!!! Haha... I think most guys do!!! What worries me is them stepping on foot pedals, tripping on cords, spilling beer down your monitor, or falling on the drummer!
