Lesson #65 - Learning to Jam

Enjoyed your lessons. I am brand new to the bass, but as a musician (piano, composition, voice) I appreciated your solid theoretical grounding. Any tips on how to get the "physical component" to sink in? My brain knows what to do, but the fingers...

Pure technical excercises can help to get your fingers working for your brain when you're actually playing music. This means taking it one note at a time and really trying to play that one note as best you can. Does it sound full and warm? Are you pushing down the string at the same time you pluck, not before or after? Are you pushing too hard? Is your hand relaxed? Are you plucking the string with the right tone, Fleshy skin for darkness, finger tip for brightness? All of these things contribute to your overall sound and once you get one note sounding good you can play more. Some good technical excersises to practice this on are chromatic scales such as these. (1 finger to a string)
1)

1234
1234

2)

G)----------1--2-3-4
D)------1--2--3-4---
A)---1-2--3--4------
E)1-2-3--4----------
