RELIGIOUS POSTS!!! Read the FAQ'S!!
We don't ask much of you all..What we offer here is 10 fold over other sites on the internet...we have lessons, articles, reviews, lessons, good friends, and alot of people that care about music and the bass, and want to share their knowledge and experiences.....This is what brings us together here in cyberspace....and what is asked of you all in return for this wonderful place? Hummm? It is 3 things...respect for other people and avoiding the 2 main taboo subjects that everyone with a brain cell knows that 1.) No one will ever agree on...2.) Cause nothing but fights and arguements, name calling, flaming, threats etc...
they are RELIGION AND POLITICS...These 2 subjects are the reason I wrote the FAQ's page in the first place..after several people thought it would be a good idea to post political posts the last couple days, the boss and I have updated the FAQ'S page.....please read the rules and take them seriously..They are there to keep this a great place for everyone to gather, without incidents..I know this current post on Gospel music started innocently enough,,,I have been watching it carefully, knowing exactly what is going to happen next..this is why I am writing this novel, to explain to the new folks how things work here...and hope to difuse this before it starts to get out of hand...I care about everyone of you...this site is very important to me, and I have 3 years of work invested here, and I want to see A.B. continue to grow....I am sure you all will agree with me on that.

Wowzers!
I can see that politics and religion cannot be on a site like this, because this site doesn't want arguments that degrade into name-calling, etc. etc.
Obviously those two things are very important to some people, but if we would like to post here at ActiveBass, I don't think it's an unreasonable request that we keep our religion and politics to other places, like email or IM.
And I haven't looked at the Gospel bass thread, but you have to posit God as the creator etc. etc. for Gospel bass to even exist. So, I think it's ok since Gospel, CCM, etc. are musical genres.

Good point.
here's a question for the gospel players - let's say you get a last minute call to sub a gospel gig (don't know that same is all that common, but hey, that's just one more thing i don't know) - and you know you're going to have to fake a fair amount of it - what are the common keys and what are the common progressions that you're going to look to in order to get you through the gig?

I'd say grab some charts from Hillsongs, Worship Together, and Vineyard and familiarize yourself with them in case you do get called for that last minute gig...which happens to me a lot! The black gospel stuff, I'd say listen to a lot of old motown, Fred Hammond, and Kirk Franklin to get into that mindset. Serious groove going on there...(see, we can discuss this stuff with out pushing theology!)

Perhaps the christian music section should be removed then? I'm not being sarcastic. If religious related topics are so offensive, and since gospel music covers so many different genre's, maybe it would just be better to do away with the christian section of the lessons. If you're jamming around and come up with a song that you would put religously themed lyrics around, BUT it's a bluesy jam, then put it under blues, etc. Thoughts?

It should NOT removed! Not at all..gospel music is not the problem, it's the preaching that's the problem...if people would stick to the MUSIC aspect of it all, we would all get along just fine.

Chris,
There's nothing wrong with the "Christian Music" section. I can choose to go there or not, that works for me.
The problem again becomes one of "Preaching" within the thread. All that's being asked is that the "message" be left out.
It just seems that once one a couple of our Christian AB members start to converse they can't control the urge to "share the joy" ... that's the issue.
