What is the best amp to take to college?

I'm a junior in high school at the moment and one of my friends is going off to college and that got me thinking-what gear am I going to play when I go to college? I'll probably only take one bass (my jazz) but my amp is way too big to take and I know I won't be going to college close enought to my house where I can drive home every weekend to get it for practice or gigs. So what I need to know is what is the best small amp. I want a 2x10 combo but I think that might be too big and I don't like 1x15 combos. I need something I could practice with a band and play shows with. If anybody that sees this is in college what do you use? Your input is greatly appreciated

I just had a flash of inspiration. I was thinking of how I wanted to have an awesome combo and then I started thinking about how much my Avatar b410 kicks butt and I was like hey-Avatar makes a 1x12 cabinet don't they? So I went to the site and they only cost a little bit more than $200. Since I'm not worried about somebody messing with my head (I love it but I can buy another one for $300 or less) I will probably buy one of those. Then I know I will have enough power and a good sound. So I'll probably take my jazz bass, my GK 400RB, and the soon to be mine Avatar 1x12 cab to college. Thanks for all your help.

I played in the same type of band in college. Did a lot of party gigs. Those parties get big, like a med-sized club big. Sometimes a few hundred people big. Especially if you're going to a state university with a lot of out of state students (like ya said for yourself, going home every weekend isn't going to happen, so they hang and party). Your flash of inspiration sounds best. You might even decide to bring that b410 down the road. You'll have a lot to work over besides the guitars and drums, like a hundred or more drunken, pumped up, rowdy, loudmouths at a 4 keg party. *sigh*...I miss college....

I would love to take my whole rig down there but I doubt any college will let me keep it in my dorm. However, if I get a full scholarship my parents might pay for me to live off campus. I'm hoping that the band I'm in will have at least one person with their own place so that I could leave my amp over there, but I'll still want something to play in the dorm. I'll probably go with the 1x12 when I start there, and hopefully move my rig and some more of my basses there when I find a band.

Yeah, the 112 is a good plan. I didn't have any use for the whole hog until my second semester. They won't let you keep a rig in the dorms but there's usually a storage place nearby. I paid about $125 for 6 months of 5x5 secure storage until I found a place off campus.

I had the BA115 and sold it to buy me 4x10. It is pretty cool but not my style. Not loud or punchy enough.
