I would suggest you you repost your message and let everyone know: what kind of music you want to play because this will narrow it down a touch, but if your gonna play rock,punk, blues, or jazz save alittle more money and get a Mexican made Fender P-bass. They're worth every penny.

Another example of why Fender makes me cringe. It's a good thing you're not a girl, or I'd be really sad. Just get out there and start looking for your bass--you'll know it when you see it/play it. It's like buying a new car-

Mike, no offense, but search the archives for "Need a new bass" or the like. This post has been done countless times before.

Check out a beginner bass package on musiciansfriend's website. They all come with a new bass, bass-amp, strap, etc. I think Bass Player magazine rated the Hartke bass-beginner pack as the best.

With your budget you could find something nice second hand, just start searching

try ebay and ask yourself what kind of sound you prefer?
