4 hard questions. Help me pick the next bass.
Hi. I'm 25, I've played for 10 years, I play at a rock band and I also play jazz (I'm at a jazz school).
I own a 7 year old Ibanez Soundgear SR800, and never had a better one.
I want to buy a new bass and I pretty much narrowed it to 2 very distinctive brands: Fender or Warwick.
So I'd like to have your help on the following questions, while I'm still trying to test them. Please consider the fact that I'll have to use it to play both aggressive rock and smooth jazz, so versatility and the ability to get many different while not "artificial" sounds, is VERY important:
1: Precision or Jazzbass? What's the difference in sound or other?
2: Thumb bolt-on or neck-through? Which is better? Pros and cons? Is the neck-through worth the extra money?
3: Any Warwick better than Thumb? Streamer?
4. Finally: Which of these 4 (P-bass, J-bass, Streamer, Thumb) should I get?
I'll apreciate your help. Thanks.

answers:
1-Jazz, because sounds better
2-Bolt-on is better, because you can't slap on neck-through's.
3-There are no good Warwicks, they suck...
4-J-Bass
Just my opinion...

Fender Jazz/BOLT ON....But I would encourage you try out a number of basses, what works for one might not work for the next guy.

I actually like the thumb bolt on better than the neck-through. I dont know why i just do.
If you like the thumb, (which is WAY better than the streamer)you should go for the thumb pro. You can get them with a swirly bubinga top and they look so phat.

1A- Precision is more rock. And Jazz is more Jazz obviously. I think Jazz gives better pop. But i like Precision because they fit me better.
2: Thumb bolt-on or neck-through? Which is better? Pros and cons? Is the neck-through worth the extra money?
2A - Neck-through all the way. Yea its worth the money
3: Any Warwick better than Thumb? Streamer?
3A - Lots of Warwick's are better then the thumb. But thats just picking a price too high. Stay with the thumb.
4. Finally: Which of these 4 (P-bass, J-bass, Streamer, Thumb) should I get?
4A- My vote is to avoid the Fender's at all costs. I feel that Fender's are really s---tly made basses. But always remember. Opinions are like a------s, everybody's got one.

Why not keep the bass? I own a sr800le. It is very versatile. Active pickups/active electronics/shielded cavity cover/fast neck-just like the fender jazz. Change your pickups if you don't like the sound. You also have four knobs to choose from. I don't know what your budget is, but the options you can choose for your existing bass will be a lot cheaper. And with the Ibanez, you do have a lot of bass for the money you paid for it.
