Here are a couple of basslines I think are pretty great - that I *haven't* heard a million times, but only heard once (like on the radio) and went "wow, pretty neat":
Squeeze - Pulling Mussels from a Shell
Narada Michael Walden - I Shoulda Loved Ya
Then, there are the classics...
Stevie Wonder - I Wish, Sir Duke, Signed Sealed Delivered, I'm Yours
Temptations - Get Ready
Marvin Gaye - What's Goin' On
Gladys Night and the Pips - I Heard it Through the Grapevine
The Four Tops - Bernadette, Reach Out I'll Be There
King Crimson - One Time
Yes - Leave It, Yours is No Disgrace
Steely Dan - Peg, Josie, Rikki Don't Loose That Number
The Trammps - Disco Inferno
Radiohead - Paranoid Android
I didn't include Rush, because all their songs are good (except maybe stuff on the first album), also I recommend anything by REM because Mike Mills playing style is excellent to imitate, but his basslines just aren't that hard to play. His lines are simple, but he has a variety of techniques (except slapping) and uses them all. For those who like ambient/alt rock, I recommend Radiohead for a feel that works with this type of music.
