Introduction

A well rounded workout is extremely important in warming up for playing periods, and building up hand strenght, flexibility, speed, and technique. These exercises can be done unplugged, sitting in front of the television. You should set some time aside every day for strengthening your hands, and take it seriously: It's the most important thing in improving your playing.

LEFT HAND

When working out the Left hand, you want to try many different workouts to keep your muscles well balanced. Work with what you can handle, don't strain your muscles.

Chromaticism

With this example, play it slowly at first, and build up speed as you become used to the feel of playing the pattern. Try it at different fret locations: Work your way towards the nut gradually, like adding weights to a barbell.

Also try playing this example with your Left hand alone, hammering all of the notes on the neck.
