Triad Exercise

by Tom Gulotta (3706)

Pages: 1 2 Suggested Tempo: 90

Just wanted to share one of my warm up exercises. It's not very origonal but I think it's effective. It brings you through every triad in the key both forward (root, 3rd, 5th) and backwards (5th, 3rd, root) This is meant to be in 3/4 so, if you can, try to hear it that way. It's also meant to be played in one position (except for the high I chord, where you need to shift up), using four fingers (one per fret). May be a challenge for the newest beginners but worth the effort to get it down. Soon you'll see it's not difficult at all. It helps build a solid foundation of fingering, picking (alternate those fingers!), and ear training. Have fun!

I've updated this lesson. Go to the next page for a jazzy exercise based on the concept of playing just arpeggios...
