If you add one more "leading tone" (a maj 7th) you end up with a very manuverable scale that looks like this.
Again this leaves you in the situation to vamp away and jam with your buddies. This example is much like the last one. It start's out with an octave in A, and then it moves to D. Notice how the line plays passing tones on it's way to the high D.
