Lets Learn: Chords Of The Major Scale

by John Weis (260)

Pages: 1 2 3 Suggested Tempo: 120

You know the Major Scale good now? Well time to learn the chords, the next step to writing songs. 7 notes in the major scale, seven chords. Okay, a chord consists of the root, 3rd, and 5th from the note you start on. Since in my last lesson we learned the G Major scale we'll learn the chords in the key of G. The 1st, 4th, and 5th note of a major scale make major chords. All other notes, except the 7th, make minor chords. The 7th note of a major scale makes a dominant. Here are the chords in G Major:
G Major
A Minor
B Minor
C Major
D Major
E Minor
F# Dominant
Heres a little excersise to learn the first two notes of every chord in G.
