If you're stuck during the jam session, not knowing what to do with the chords you are facing, there are few things you can do to help yourself. First, you can simply mimic the bass drum's rhythm figure while playing the root of the chord, like in firs two bars of example one. Then you can throw in some chromatic lead-in notes, like in bars three and four. You can also play couple of octaves here and there to break monotony.
