Lose That Number

by John Crosley (7149)

Pages: 1 2 Suggested Tempo: 120

Hi everybody. This is my first "real" lesson,so please rate it,give me feedback,in general let me know what you think.

When I first started to learn bass, my jazz bassist father figure informed me that I would have to learn the notes to all the chords out there. This seemed to be an overwhelming thing to do. I mean,I just want to play some rock & roll, you know. As the years went by I realized that I didn't need to know ALL the notes to ALL the chords. Just the basic chord forms. Major, minor augmented, diminished, and sus. What if I run into a "strange" chord? You know the ones with numbers behind them. The solution is simple. Lose the number and just play the basic triad form. In my examples I have used numbered chords and put a basic 1-3-5 bass line under them. Notice how it works in all the chords without getting complicated.
