Gettin' Busy W/ An 1/8 Note Groove

by Jim Keller, IV (1889)

Pages: 1 2 Suggested Tempo: 140

Bars 1-4: 1/8 note groove in a 2-bar phrase. Bars 5-8: Variation #1(note the "ghosted" 1/16 on the "a of 4" in both bars...this acts as a "kick" into the following bar). Bars 9-12 Variation #2(Beat 3 of bar 1...staccato 1/16s; Beats 1 & 2 of bar 2 are longer tones). Bars 13-16: Variation #3(Beat 2 of bar 1...bar 2 is pretty "busy" except for the 1/4 note on beat 2). One of my goals is to be able to improv a line like this WITHOUT BUSTIN' UP THE GROOVE.
