Triplets

by Steve Rosenka (423)

Pages: 1 Suggested Tempo: 120

This lesson is going to be easy but hard. We are going to get to know triplets.

Now pick a scale, any scale. Set your metronome and play the scale up and down a few times.

Warmed up? Good. Now instead of playing each note of the scale once per beat, play it 3 times per beat. These are triplets.

You'll probably need to slow down your metronome cosiderably to play like this, but, as I've said along, learn it right, then learn it fast.

If you want to get a bit ambitious,do the 1,2,3 excercise in triplets. That is 1,1,1;2,2,2;3,3,3, and so on. That's when it gets fun! If you play with a pick, use a down-stroke,up-stroke,down-stroke. If you play with your fingers, try to use your first three fingers. Using the ring finger may be a little awkward at first, but it's best to try to work it in as another tool.

So remember, three notes to each beat. I'm sure you'll find it challenging, particularly when playing with fingers, but you'll get the hang of it.Have patience, have faith and have FUN! If you have any questions or comments, please don't hestitate to drop me a line. Also PLEASE rate the lesson! I don't know if I'm doing a good job unless YOU tell me!Until next time,Happy Playing!!!-Steve
