Basic Warm-up exercise

Each finger is assigned only one fret. The first finger of your fretting hand works the fifth fret of the string your beginning this warm-up on. The second finger works the sixth fret of the same string, and so on. Practice this exercise on each string to complete it.

As you get stronger start the exercise on the fourth fret and then the third fret until you finally reach the first fret. Please try to keep your wrist straight to prevent injury and stop if you feel any pain.

Make sure your first finger, even though it's not being used to sound the note on the fourth and fifth measures, is fretting the fifth fret. Also for the sixth measure, make sure your first finger is fretting the fifth fret and the second finger is fretting the sixth fret while the third finger is being used to sound the note.

Alternate the first and second fingers of your picking hand to pick the string. Always pick with the first finger at the beginning of each measure. Also try counting the notes. ex. 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and. The first finger will pick on the numbers while the second finger will pick on "and" except for the last "and" which is an eighth note rest (no sound).

As you become more advanced try repeating each measure 3 times and include hammer-ons and pull-offs with your fretting hand to sound the notes .

Stay consistent and you will succeed.
