Suggested Tempo: 120
The next in our series of scales is called the major pentatonic. It consists of 5 ("Penta" means five) note of the Ionian scale.
This time we will start in the key of D, but remember the scale can be played in any position on the neck. Let's begin.
On the B string, we play the 3rd fret (D) and the 5th fret(E). On the E string, the 2nd fret (F#) and the 5th (A). On the A string, play the 2nd fret (B), the 5th fret (D), the 7th fret (E). On the D string, we play the 4th fret(F#), and the 7th fret (A). On the G string, we play the 4th fret(B) and the 7th fret (D). And there is the 2-octave major pentatonic scale.
This scale will play over any major chord. As usual, set your metronome to a slow steady pace 'til you get used to the pattern. If you've done your homework on the Ionian scale, that should make it a bit easier.
Our next scale will be the minor pentatonic or blues scale. So until the practice consistently, have fait and have FUN! If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to drop me a line. And please, by all means, rate the lesson. The only way I kmow if I'm doing any good is by what YOU tell me, Until next time,Happy Playing!!!-Steve
