Jazz Line: The Cue

by Chris Bond (432)

Pages: 1 Suggested Tempo: 120

There will be times when you will be called on to cue other musicians as when to begin. I have always looked upon this as an opportunity to 'shine' out a little. As always, I try to execute something that is tastful.

This progression is an expansion on a basic blues.
The chords used are A7 F#7 B7 E7 Bb7. With all these dominant 7ths running around, I decided to use a minor tonality for the cue, as this will make it 'stand out', as well as add some dynamics to the over all sound.

I decided that Bminor would be my best bet due that it can be thought of as a parallel tonality.

So here is the breakdown, The first two measures are the cue, of which I use Bminor. The following progression is A7 F#7 B7 E7 Bb7. The line never returns to Bminor, it is played one time and thats it.
