Victor Wooten is one of the best bass players, ever. He has the ability to create fast and rythmic slap lines that are insane. One of his basic movable patterns is what he calls "Open Hammer Pluck". Using the bass line below as an example, here is how this technique is performed. It is played as a 6-tuplet, but it is easier to think of it in terms of 2 triplets. The first note is an open A, which is slapped. Then you hammer on the 5 on the A string. Next, pluck an open G. There you have the "Open Hammer Pluck". That covers the first triplet. The next triplet is played in the same fashion. Open D, hammer the 7, then pluck the 7 on the G. I use the same finger to fret both 7s. The example below shows you 2 6-tuplet patterns, the second is just moved up a step.
The lesson tempo is set to 120 but Victor can do them about 200+.
