Just Play The Melody II

by Andrew Lack (1452)

Pages: 1 2 3 Suggested Tempo: 140

I meant it when I said I was off to learn the melody to Moon Dance. Here's another example of tune many of us play regularly. It's also another example of a tune I'm expected to solo over. Sure, I know what chords to play over, what scales and modes are available, but my solos were always unsatisfying. That's when I took the time to learn the melody.

Be aware I am not passing this off as a note for note, rhythmically accurate transcription of the melody. It's just my recollection of that melody after hearing it sung so many times by so many people. Since the Line Builder won't allow triplets of any type, rhythmic accuracy is next to impossible anyway.

I do find it interesting that we bassists often feel our solos need to be chop heavy, flashy & fast while running up and down the fingerboard. But when a truly great song writer composes a memorable melody, often they do it with few notes. If my transcription is even close then the entire A Section was composed with just six notes.

The three sections of the melody have been separated, one section per page. The section below is the verse section which is played over one chord, Am7.
