Breaking The Root-root Habit

by Eugene Shults (361)

Pages: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Suggested Tempo: 120

In this lesson i'll go over various patterns of different scales. First i'll go over different ways to approach the major scale and in future lessons I will go over different patterns of the various modes.

This lesson is based on an excerpt in the book Serious Electric Bass by Joel Di Bartolo. I am currently going through the book and found this lesson particularly useful. This is definitely the next step in developing knowledge of scales and familiarity with the fretboard for those who already know all the scale and modal patterns but only from that one typical root-octave pattern like the one on this very page(this was where I was).

This first pattern is the typical pattern for the A major scale. The next few pages will have different patterns for this same scale that will span between 1-4 strings. It is good to know these as it makes you more familiar with the fretboard and gives you the ability to hit scale notes outside of positions that you are used to.
