Suggested Tempo: 120
This will be the last of the warm-up excercises for the time being. It is based on the previous lessons, but a bit more challenging.
As before, 1 string per fret on the B string. Play fingers 1, then 3, then 2 ,then 4.Play each note cleanly, then drop a string etc. til you get to the G string, then work back. Move up a fret and repeat. Do this til you reach the 7th fret, then work back down to the first.
Set your metronome at a comfortable pace. This excercise will take some getting used to,so start slowly. Another variation is 2nd finger, 4th, 1st, 3rd. This may seem a bit difficult at first, so be patient and don't go too fast when starting out.
Have patience,Have faith and have fun. These excercises will all benefit you down the line. For more advanced excercises, refer to the book "Bass Fitness:an excercising Handbook" by Josquin Des Pres. It's set up for a 4-string bass, but is easily adapted to the 5-string. It involves such advanced excercises as finger and string-skipping.
Every now and again,I will put some more warm-up excercises in for you,but next time, we will start getting into the meat and potatoes of the 5-string, starting with neck familiarization and scales. So 'til then Have fun and Happy Playing! -Steve P>S>-If you have any questions or suggestions, please leave me a message or E-Mail me at rosenhart71@earthlink.net
