By now you see that shifting position and playing the appropriate mode gives you access to the entire fretboard without excessive memorization. Let's look at one more extension. Starting with the E Phrygian shift up 3 frets (two scale degrees) to G and play the Mixolydian mode.



Notice we have reached the 12 fret already. When you combine G Mixolydian with C Ionian and E Phrygian you have more than a two octave range to use in C major.
