Style Of The Month: Rock'n'Roll #3

by Patrick Pfeiffer (10693)

Pages: 1 Suggested Tempo: 130

Hel-low! (Ha! Finally something new!).

Time for another Rock'n'Roll Groove. This one is a great example of what to play when the producer insists on pumping 8th notes, but you don't want to put the listener to sleep by just riding the root. In this case you can hint at a syncopation, a note that does not fall on the down beat. In this groove all the notes fall on the downbeat, but the third one is a whole step below the root (on beat 2) while the root gets re-stated on the "and" of beat 2 (the fourth note in this sequence), therefore creating an "implied syncopation" without ever dropping the pattern. A good thing to keep in mind...Enjoy!

Tempo: 260 (actual tempo is 130, but there are a couple of 16th notes at the end and the AB system only recognizes 8th note patterns)

P.S.: If you're playing the TAB pattern below, reset your tempo to 130.
