TechnoTune-How Tracy Got Her Groove Back

January 2006 - now that my gigging schedule has lightened up considerably and I'm not playing other people's music all the time, my own channel to the music of the universe has opened up again and the tunes are coming back to me. This is the first groove to start playing in my head.

Imagine a synthesized backing track. This melody is a typical techno dance melody, straightforward with no syncopation. The interest comes from the changes in the harmony under the melody. The classic octave bass line in eigth notes drives the tune.

Notice the slight differences in harmonies at the ends of the two-bar phrases. The first, with the Fmin7 and Gmin7, is really the same as the second, Abmaj and Bbmaj, just with the addition of the F and G in the bassline, which changes the whole sound of the chord.

Because of the limitations of the Lesson Builder, the chords don't play when there is a second bassline. Go to the next page to hear the underlying harmonies for the melody.
Now that I cleared the glitch from my computer, I've set the sound to "slap2" and the loop to "once." Feel free to change the sound or loop (controls at bottom of the page) for what works for you.
