Using Pentatonics As Upper Extensions

Fun With Pentatonics Over Major Seventh Chords

Here, a 1-2-3-5 pattern based on the B-minor and a E-minor pentatonics is used to play the upper extensions of a G major 7 and C major 7 chord. The first measure contains the 13,mj7 and #11 (the #11 is a passing tone from the D to the B),while the second measure contains the 13 and mj7. Each of these is an example of playing a minor pentatonic whose tonic is the third of a Major 7 chord.
