We Can't All Be Heroes - Solo

by Ronnie Duisters (468)

Pages: 1 2 Suggested Tempo: 120

This lesson from my list of high-range melodic bassgrooves is the solo of one of the songs of my 'we can't all be heroes' CD. You can listen to this song on a Dutch website (click on 'we can't all be heroes' on the right side of the page, the solo starts at about 2:30).

I use these high range melodic bassgrooves because I want to play melodies, but I also want to stick to the basic low tones for which a bass was made. Especially for live-occasions, you can't afford to lose the low notes, even when you're soloing. This example is a solo including the basstones, based on the open-string technique.

This first part is a melody with a drone tone, which is the open string A. In the second bassline, this drone is added to get a full sound. I use many grace notes, slides and hammer-ons, but I can't post them in the bassline below due to limitations of the builder. Feel free to add them yourself. I simply use my index and middle finger of my right hand to pluck the notes, but you can also choose to use your thumb to pluck the drone string. The solo continues on the next page (as I'm limited to 16 bars).
