Top of the week, bottom of the (audible) frequencies!
It's time (and I'm on time) for the Bass Groove of the Week. This week we're taking a page out of the playbook of one of my absolute favorites. The ultimate studio cat, Mr. Will Lee! Will is a superb bass player, and one heck of a nice guy who has encouraged me from my first days in New York, and topped it all off by writing the foreword to my book "Bass Guitar For Dummies". You can see him almost every night on the "Late Show with David Letterman," and you can hear him every day just by turning on the radio and listening...either to songs or to commercials...now
that's success!
Will is simply a great cat, and it's really difficult to pick a bass line in his style, he plays so many so well, so I picked one that made a great impression on me a while back. Now, sit back and enjoy the groove (and then sit up and play it yourself!) in the style of Will Lee!
Settings:
Tempo: 180 (Yes, we're fooling the AB system, the real tempo is 90 if you're going for 16th notes...but this one can be heard as 8th notes, too...it's sort of a half time feel)
Sound: Elec Fing
Click: Start
Loop: 4 times
Groove Skeleton: 1-a (dotted 8th note followed by 16th note)
Tonality: Minor (Aeolian, there's a minor 6th)
Style: Jazz (with a latin twist!)
Man, I almost forgot about this one! What a great line. It's based on the song "Reunion" by Pat Metheny's band. Check it out, it's really nice! Well, enjoy! I'll see you next week! Happy Holidays to you all. My wish for all of you: May your bass lines endure!
Peace,
Patrick
P.S.: If you're playing the TAB version below, set your tempo to 90.
