Top of the week, bottom's up! It's time for the bass groove of the week!
As promised in the earlier ones, here's a Canadian bass player who strikes a chord with an awful lot of bottom dwellers! This week's groove is in the style of Geddy Lee!
Geddy is a member of the progressive rock group RUSH, and if that's any indication of the tempos they play at...well, you guessed it, it's fast! Very cool stuff, and every bassist should give it a listen.
In a groove as we have here, position is everything...don't forget, the cat sings, too! This groove, however, is from an instrumental (or rather, it's in the style of that tune). Start this groove on the 1 or the 2 finger in your fretting hand, and the whole lick (...ah, the influence of my puppy..."lick") falls into one position. Have fun!
SETTINGS
Tempo: 300 (Yikes...that's fast, but don't forget, it's actually 150...we're fooling the AB system into 16th notes)
Sound: Elec Fing
Click: Start
Loop: 4 times
Groove Skeleton: 1-e (two 16th notes)
Tonality: Either A Dominant or C# Minor...since it's a riff it's kind of hard to tell.
Warms the heart (and the fingers), doesn't it? Well, hope you've enjoyed this week's installment of BGOTW. See you next week, and who knows what bottom dweller well be raising then! ;-)
Peace,
Patrick
P.S.: If you're playing the TAB version on the bottom of this page, set your tempo setting to 150.
