Regi Wooten's Tapping Exercise

by Tracy Hardy Johnson (17447)

Pages: 1 Suggested Tempo: 60

This is the tapping tune Regi Wooten showed us at "Woot Camp" as I remember it. Regi is called "Teacha" and he taught the Bass/Nature campers just like he taught Victor. This is a nice little intro to tapping, easy yet charming.

To produce the tapped note, strike the string on the fret directly, not behind the fret as in regular playing. Strike the fret forcefully and keep your finger in place to produce a sustained tone.

On this exericise, the left hand plays the two outer strings (E and G) and the right hand plays the inner strings (A and D). Notice that the right hand plays the same sequence throughout. The pattern repeats at bar 8 and ends with a sustained chord.

Sustain each note throughout the measure; i.e., keep each note fretted until it is time to change where that finger plays. The sustained notes then blend to produce the chordal tone. (I added the 2nd bassline only to produce the effect of the sustained notes on the E string since AB playback allows only one note at a time per bass line.)

Use this as a foundation to experiment with other chords and patterns.
