Top of the week, fellow bassic ones!
It's high time for a low groove of the week! This week we're looking at a Bass Groove by a bassist who gave Disco a good name: Bernard Edwards! Bernard was a founding member of the group "Chic" in the late '70s, and if you have a distaste for disco, these bass lines may just convince you to buy your first disco album.
Bernard Edwards was a cat who brought a lot of Funk to the table, and when you try playing his lines you'll notice that you actually have to do some fancy finger work to execute them. It's hard to think of his stuff as disco, but it is, and he played some powerful grooves.
Without further ado, here's a groove in the style of Bernard Edwards, whose motto was "...good vibes, good grooves, and good clothes." So put on your bellbottom pants and break out that disco ball:
Settings
Tempo: 240 (we're fooling the AB system into 16th notes)
Sound: Elec Fing
Click: Start
Loop: 4 times
Groove Skeleton: 1-2e (quarter note plus 16th rest)
Tonality: Minor (Aeolian...but it implies additional chords)
Style: Disco, but feels almost like R&B/Soul
So light up the stage with multi-colored lights, and spin that mirrored ball on the ceiling! Enjoy!
Peace,
Patrick
P.S.: If you're playing the TAB version below, set your tempo to 120.
