Top of the week, fellow deep vibrations worshippers!
It's time for another installment of Groove of the Week! This time we have to ask ourselves "what have we Dunn...?" That's right, this week's groove is in the style of none other than Donald Duck Dunn. Look him up on the internet, his discography is stunning! He's one of the all-time great groove masters. If you've seen the Blues Brothers movies, then you've seen him in action.
Dunn employs mostly an 8th-note feel, but uses 16th-note rhythms to syncopate. Needless to say, there are exceptions. Without further ado, get ready to lay it down in Dunn fashion...and don't forget those sunglasses!
Settings
Tempo: 240 (we're fooling the AB system into 16th notes)
Sound: Elec Fing
Click: Start
Loop: 4 times
Groove Skeleton: 1-+ (two 8th-notes)
Tonality: Dominant (Mixolydian...but with a b3, making it Dorian) (it's actually a minor kind of groove because of the b3, but it fits really well over a bluesy Dominant tonality).
Style: R&B/Soul
So light up the stage...and your pipe (if you've seen the movie you'll know what I'm talking about) and get your drummer to play like Al Jackson Jr. (not related to our very own Clifton Jackson). Enjoy, and good luck!
Peace,
Patrick
P.S.: If you're playing the TAB version below, set your tempo to 120.
