Bass Groove Of The Week #14

by Patrick Pfeiffer (10700)

Pages: 1 Suggested Tempo: 120

Top of the week, fellow low-enders!

It's time for another installment of the Groove of the Week! This week, and for the next two weeks, I have something special for you! The groove of the week is in the style of none other than Jaco Pastorius...it's in his style! It's NOT an exact transcription (this is the official legal disclaimer, so please...!).

Jaco had this uncanny ability to make a busy 16th note line sound so easy...it simply flows! Position is everything! Here's something you can experiment with: Try playing some of the notes as dead notes. Make your own choices, and keep the notes where they are notated. Any questions, drop me a line!

This is the first measure of a two-measure groove, but it's also a self-contained groove. You'll get the second measure (also a self-contained groove) next week, but get this one under your fingers first...it ain't easy! Hey, it's (in the style of) Jaco!

Enjoy, and keep that amp warmed up!

Settings:

Tempo: 240
(once again we're fooling the AB system into 16th notes! The actual playing tempo is 120)

Sound: Elec Fing

Click: Start

Loop: 4 times

Groove Skeleton: 1-+

Tonality: Dominant (Mixolydian Mode)

Style: Jazz/Rock Fusion

Play this, play this well, and then you can make up your own mind if you like it or not. There's usually a nice flow in Jaco-Grooves, and anybody can learn from it. Have fun!

Peace,

Patrick

P.S.: If you play the TAB version, set your Tempo to 120.
