Top of the week, United Bottom Dwellers of the World!
My bass necks have stopped shifting, so Spring has arrived, which puts me into fabulous moods, which in turn translates into "springy" bass grooves...ok, enough of this! Let's get down to business!
This week's groove is on the fancy side, and quite a workout for your fingers (both right and left), lots of string crossing. However, I hope you'll find this groove worth it.
Because you're using all four strings, this groove is not really all that mobile (unless you play a 5- or 6-string bass), but then again, it doesn't need to be if you're staying on one chord.
It's a definitive Dominant tonality (Root, 3rd, 5th, and b7th) with some chromaticism mixed in. Note that the chromatic tones come in on weak parts of the beat, and then resolve to the strong tones. Another noteworthy (what a great word for musicians) item is the anticipation into beat 3, giving the whole groove an urgency.
Ok, enough of the theoretical stuff. If any questions pop up, just drop me a line, but for now...PLAY!

I hope you'll enjoy this fancy little groove, and I hope your drummer is solid on the 16th note Funk! Have fun!
