Drum & Bass is a style of dance music that was manufactured by the British in the early 90's. It's never been very popular in North America, but it was huge in the London underground club scene for a while. Drum & Bass is typically fast and aggressive - track tempos range from 170 to 200 bpm. The infamous two-step drum pattern makes it great fist-pumping, foot-stomping music.

Originally, all Drum & Bass basslines were produced electronically, but nowadays artists are using acoustic basslines and even jazz electric basslines in their songs. The genre has moved away from it's club-oriented roots quite a bit in the past decade. "Newschool" dnb is a lot chiller and funkier.

This first line sounds kind of like the "EZ-Rollers", a very funky Drum & Bass group. The drum track you're hearing isn't very drum and bassy, but meh. Your typical dnb loop goes "BOOM-THWACK--BOOMTHWACK"
