Yo Everyone,
Drum roll please……The Circle of 5ths for the last time! This is the Finale!! I know you all want to see more of it but, it is time to move on to something else. Ha!
As you can see in this Circle of 5ths, the Sharps and Flats are listed on the outer Arcs.
Let’s work with this thing….In the key of G, (G Major scale) there is one Sharp Note, F#! It is the first Sharp in the Circle of 5ths going Clockwise. Continuing Clockwise, we come to D, which has two Sharps, F# & C#! The F# is added to the next key and the C# is the New Sharp. Moving on, we come to A, which has three Sharps, F#, C# & G#. The F# & C# are added to this key and the G# is the New Sharp!
Now let’s look at the Flats…In the key F, (F Major scale) there is one Flat Note, Bb. It is the first Flat in the Circle of 5ths going Counter-Clockwise. Continuing Counter-Clockwise, we come to Bb, which has two Flats, Bb & Eb. The Bb is added to the next key and the Eb is the New Flat. Continuing around Counter-Clockwise, we come Eb, which has three Flats, Bb, Eb & Ab. The Bb & Eb are added to this key and the Ab is the New Flat! Now this works with the Relative minor keys as well, don’t forget about them! You can see how this is working here!!
Knowing and Understanding this will help you with your Scales and Creating & Understanding chord Progressions!!
