Now, although there is no tab, no practical music lesson please wait and read .. i emplore you. This will take two minutes of your time and will provide you with a lifetime's worth of insight, call it piece of mind. I was told, by Jon Thorne (Double bassist from Lamb - check 'em out) this following statement and i'm passing it on because it made me stop and think and i have to pass it on to you. It is a philosophy on Music and it sums it up to a tee...............
"Give it everything. Keep it intense, but stay relaxed......Remember you are a channel for music, prepare thouroughly with this in mind........Open your self, be humble for what you receive.......... Music is all about expression and communication, NOT competition.....Be happy for what YOU have to give. Go easy on yourself. Play with depth and feeling, this is far more important than speed. A large vocabulary isn't as important as the feeling and intent behind what you play........Still strive to broaden what you can do. Plan targets for yourself and WORK HARD TO REACH THEM. Wish for better playing, will it into being and work for it.......Be open to everything............Imitate other instruments. Play melodies. Put love into your playing, this always shines through. Keep ego out of the equation............... Music comes through you. IT IS A GIFT to be given to others. It is a blessing to play music. ENJOY YOURSELF. Music is the universal language........Be as water, useful to all and in competition with nothing."................Wow....scribble this down, print it off, whatever...put it up on your wall, stick to the back of your bass and whenever music gets on top of you and you can't play that Jaco solo or can't manage to play moonlight sonata look at it, take a deep breath and let it flow, let it come naturally. Music IS a gift that we have, give it to others. I can say more with my bass than i can with my mouth. Language is so limited, words just aren't enough....love, hate... define them...you can't it's impossible..but music, music can say it in one note, music can say a million things in a millions different ways. It is without question the most amazing, beautiful thing that we simple humans have created. So go and play, write, listen, whatever. ...........Just do....whatever.
.Peace. Foz.....Oh and please rate this, it would comfort me to know this has touched someone as deeply as it touched me and my outlook on music. And also check out Ear Parcel by Lamb - the bass intro is simple and devine.
