Hi!
First of all you have to know what does a Circle of 5ths means, If you don't know check Bass Lesson #9924 at ActiveBass: Circle Of Fifths And Scales by Mike Russo.

Here we have the C major scale (Ionian mode)
Cmaj Ionian

If we change that 7maj (B) for a 7min (Bb) we get the F major scale key, but in it's Mixolydian mode which in this case is a C7.
Cmaj Ionian -->
Fmaj Mixolydian

You see, that flip between majors (keys) doesn't sound dissonant when you change the mentioned note, it's like when you play the Minor Melodic scale (nor MinMaj).

Descending

With this trick you got:
C key to F key

This it is an excellent trick to jump to the key of the fourth degree that in addition is very good to improvise. Keep this trick in mind and you will rock man!
