The Book of Riffs Vol. - 1
Building riffs is not as hard as it may seem, at first glance. Like a building, a riff is made of many smaller parts that fit well together. These parts are called motif's. For the purposes of this book, each motif in this lesson will be equal to one beat of time in a measure. I will show you how it is possible to make up to 840 riffs from seven simple motifs, taken four at a time, to build a one measure, repeatable and moveable riff. Below you will see diagrams of the different motifs to be used, and a pattern showing them all together. By using any four of these seven motif's, you can create a one-bar riff, and move it to fit any major chord! Showing you seven things that you can make 840 things from, makes this well worth learning. Set your LOOP at the bottom of the page to repeat four times.
Our first riff uses only the first four motif's, of the seven shown.
